Agreement Eni-Sonatrach, will arrive 3 billion m3 of gas from Algeria by the end of 2022

The company of the six-legged dog yesterday signed the official agreement with the Algerian homologation Sonatrach to accelerate the development of some new deposits in the Maghreb country. The memorandum also provides for a pilot project on green hydrogen

From then to 2024 they would grow until 9 billion m3

(Sustainabilityenvironment.com) – Three billion cubic meters more gas by the end of 2022 and a pilot project on green hydrogen. These are the two main points of the memorandum of understanding signed by Eni and Sonatrach, the Algerian national hydrocarbon company. The agreement begins to put the details of the agreement reached between Italy and Algeria between February and April. A fundamental understanding of the energy security of Italy, focuses mainly on gas from Algeria to emancipate itself from the Russian one.

The Italian energy company has agreed with the Algerian homologation on which deposits already discovered will have to provide additional gas. The political agreement reached in April speaks of 9 billion cubic meters in all but by 2024. A capacity that, at the moment, Algeria cannot satisfy. To accelerate the time and secure a share of gas from Algeria already in a short time, Eni will support Sonatrach in the accelerated development of some new deposits. From which, within December, will be pumped 3 billion m3 that will arrive in Italy through the gas pipeline Transmed.

“The agreement does not end in 2024 but the flow will be constant or on a ramp that will grow: from Algiers, we will have about 3 billion cubic meters more gas immediately, another 6 in 2023 to reach 9 billion, about 3 billion gas and 3 of Gnl”, the Minister of Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani explained. Specifying the expected volumes of gas from Algeria on the occasion of the state visit to the Maghreb country with which the closest energy cooperation between the two countries officially started.

In addition to gas, the memorandum signed yesterday by Eni provides for “the technical and economic evaluation of a pilot green hydrogen project in Bir Rebaa North (BRN), in the Algerian desert”. A project that “aims to contribute to the decarbonization of the BRN gas plant operated by JV SONATRACH-Eni GSE”, reads a note from the energy company
