The 2023 data on the market of solar trailers
Global solar tracker trade grew by 28% in 2023, reaching 92 GW of shipping capacity. A reflection of the excellent year that utility-scale photovoltaics have lived in most of the world’s markets. The figures come from Wood Mackenzie’s 2024 “Global Solar PV Tracker Market Share” report. The document provides a ranking of the major solar tracking system manufacturers based on capacity shipped in 2023, dividing information across global, regional and major countries. Photovoltaic Trackers, the dominance of the USA
For the ninth year in a row, US-based Nextracker and Array Technologies led the industry, taking first and second place in the global market for solar trackers. And Nextracker has expanded its advantage over Array with an annual growth of 20%.
Close the podium GameChange Solar, another reality with stars and stripes, with a share of 12%. The company is ranked third for the first time, thanks to an impressive annual growth of 55%. These three manufacturers alone were responsible for over half of global tracker shipments in 2023. Dominating 90% of the US market.
“The United States, the largest individual market for photovoltaic trackers, has registered an increase of 10% year-on-year to more than 37 GW of shipments in 2023,” WoodMac explains in a press release. “This has been facilitated by the incentives of the Inflation Reduction Act that have led to the construction of many new large-scale projects across the country.”
The “Spanish quota” The first European company in the list? The Spanish PV hardware is in fourth place with a piece of 10% of the global market.
“In Europe, Spain has been the largest market in the region with more than 50% of continental demand,” the statement says. “PV Hardware ranked first in shipments to Europe and second in Spain behind Solar Steel. The two suppliers were reached in the world’s top 10 by two other Spanish manufacturers, Soltec and Axial. All these companies have capitalized on both domestic and international demand, especially in the rest of Europe and Latin America.”
The Chinese market of solar trailers
Unexpectedly compared to what is happening in other areas of the energy transition, China has lost volumes. The report shows that Chinese manufacturers of photovoltaic trailers recorded a drop in sales, with shipments of just 4.3 GW in 2023, despite the country having exceeded 140 GW of solar plants on an industrial scale in the same year. Despite this decline, TrinaTracker and Arctech have entered the world’s top six by expanding their regional presence in the Middle East, Central Asia and Latin America.
