The agreement provides for an investment of 500 million for the establishment of a newco that will manage a production site for the construction of wind turbines in Italy and that will employ 1100 resources
Delivered the Environmental Impact Study for the floating offshore wind project Med Wind
Renexia, a company of the Toto Group active in the renewable sector, expresses satisfaction for having signed together with the Minister of Made in Italy Adolfo Urso and MingYang, one of the world’s leading producers of wind turbines, a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at the establishment of a newco that will manage a production site for the manufacture of wind Turbines in Italy, thanks to an investment of 500 million euros.
Here will be produced and assembled the fundamental components for the realization of Med Wind, the largest offshore floating wind plant project of the Mediterranean Sea, off the Trapanian coasts and for which Renexia presented today the Environmental Impact Study, after a wide series of thorough and accurate studies of environmental and economic feasibility, lasted years and that required a significant investment. This is an essential development plan because the large Sicilian project represents the ideal starting point for creating an industrial chain of wind power, both offshore and onshore, so far not present in other countries, making Italy an international reference point in an industrial sector with high potential.
“I would like to thank Minister Bear for the trust he has given us and for believing in our project. The partnership signed today will enable us to realize a value chain that also involves domestic companies, in floating offshore wind power, within our borders. In this way we will make a valuable contribution to centralise the objectives of the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate, and to support the Mattei Plan” – commented Riccardo Toto, Director General Renexia.
Renexia has chosen Ming Yang because the Chinese Group can ensure the supply by the first half of 2026, the date set by the project for the start of the installations in the first section of the plant, located more than 80 km from the coast. The solution proposed by Ming Yang, with whom Renexia has already collaborated in the construction in Taranto of the first, and still unique, marine wind farm of the Mediterranean, consists in the use of a turbine of 18.8 MW, a power that would allow to reduce the number of air generators planned for Med Wind. From the 190 with a power of 15 MW each of the original project would therefore be increased to 148 for production, once a regime, of 9 TWh per year, equivalent to the need of 3.4 million households. Two will be the advantages of this choice: the reduction of environmental impact and maintenance costs.
The new company, formed initially by Ming Yang and Renexia, will identify the appropriate area, in agreement with the Government, within 90 days. The projected employment is about 1100 resources. Thanks to Mimit’s commitment, the next step will be to support the entry into the shareholding of new Italian entities and encourage international investments.
