It resembles an e-reader, guarantees privacy and long battery life. From Poland, the world’s most efficient smartphone
No Google, but it lasts up to a week in standby mode and isolates you from the world with a click
It’s called Mudita Kompakt, and it’s the world’s most efficient and minimalist smartphone, designed for those who want to minimize battery consumption and maximize privacy. You just have to settle for looking at the display… in black and white. Very similar to an e-reader like the popular Kindle and Kobo, it was created by a Polish startup and launched on Kickstarter. The device offers only essential functions, limiting apps and relying on a custom operating system without Google services.
Features, price, and design of the black-and-white smartphone
The Mudita Kompakt has a 4.3-inch E Ink display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. The design is compact and refined, and the electronic ink screen allows for a natural, glare-free viewing experience, ideal for prolonged reading. The phone includes a MediaTek quad-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage—sufficient for basic functions. The 3,300 mAh battery, also rechargeable wirelessly, lasts up to six days in standby mode. The custom operating system is based on the Android Open Source Project, with three years of guaranteed updates. The device features a 3.5 mm headphone jack, fingerprint reader, USB-C port, wireless charging support, and a dual SIM tray that can also hold a microSD card instead of a SIM card. An external switch activates Offline+ mode, for when you really want to isolate yourself from the world. Not only does it disable cellular networks, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth like airplane mode, but it also shuts off the three microphones and the camera. It even physically cuts power to the phone’s GSM module. The apps are limited, but essential:
- Calls and SMS
- Offline maps
- Weather
- E-reader
- Notes
- Voice recorder
- Calculator
- Camera (photo only, no video)
- Timer
- Music player
- Chess
The limited range of applications is acceptable for those seeking an alternative to more conventional smartphones. Thanks to a design focused on privacy and simplicity, this Polish innovation promises a minimalist user experience, appealing to those who wish to reduce screen dependency and reconnect with the real world.
Energy efficiency, sustainability, and price
The Mudita Kompakt’s energy efficiency is remarkable due to its E Ink screen, which consumes power only during recharging. The Offline+ mode is an exclusive feature that allows you to completely deactivate networks, microphones, camera, and the GSM module, ensuring, according to the creators, a truly offline and private experience. The Polish smartphone is available on Kickstarter starting at €299 for early backers, with the price rising to €439 once the device hits the market. Shipments are scheduled for April 2025.
