For those who loved the iconic rollerblades, these electric skates designed in France represent an interesting way to get around the city
With a range of 26 km, electric skates allow for long, effortless strolls
The French company AtmosGear seeks fortune on Kickstarter with an innovation for urban micromobility: inline electric skates. Those who used rollerblades, popular in the 1990s, know what it means to skate on asphalt for long distances. But soon it may be possible to do so without effort. If the idea from the French company successfully makes the leap to the mass market, lovers of sustainable mobility will have a new solution. The electric skates designed by AtmosGear are lightweight and fast, thanks to the fact that the battery is worn on the waist.
These e-rollers are available as frames that can be mounted on existing skates, but complete sets with FRSkates boots are also available. The available colors are black, white, and yellow.
All the Features of the French Electric Skates
Unlike similar models other companies offer, these skates resemble traditional skates more closely, thanks to a design that integrates a hub motor only in the central wheel of each skate. Each motor is powered by a 280 Wh lithium-ion battery, which is housed in a 1.5 kg waist pack. Two coiled cables connect the battery to the motors, controlled via a wireless remote with a thumb throttle.
The choice to position the battery externally allows the skates to remain lightweight and agile. With an additional weight of only 680 grams compared to conventional frames, the AtmosGear skates are maneuverable and less prone to damage from impacts.
These skates can reach a maximum speed of 29 km/h, offer a range of 26 km, and have enough torque to tackle inclines of 15%. Additionally, their water resistance makes them suitable for various weather conditions. As always, the downside is the cost. To purchase a set of frames, one needs to pledge €630 on Kickstarter. The complete package, which also includes the boots, costs €770. The expected retail prices are higher: they will be $850 and $1,000, respectively.
